Search for a Cause turns your searches into money for amazing non-profits
Plant trees, help animals, save lives, and more
No need to change your habits
We give the money, it won't cost you a cent
This makes Search for a Cause your default search engine.
You'll get a cutting-edge search results page powered by our partnership with Yahoo.
The first few results contain ads that generate the money we use to support non-profits.
We’ve partnered with Yahoo to create a search engine built to have a real, tangible impact. The average Search for a Cause user will raise enough each year to plant over 60 trees, provide 50 newborns access to lifesaving antibiotics, or provide 30 emergency nutrition treatments to children.
SFAC users have already raised over $15,000 for amazing non-profits adding to the over $2 million we have raised in combination with Tab for a Cause!
We know that especially when it comes to charitable giving, trust has to be earned. This is why we publish both our code and our financials publicly.
When you use Search for a Cause you will be raising money for the same cause(s) you support on Tab for a Cause. For instance, if you are using Tab for Trees, your searches will be going toward planting trees through Eden Reforestation Projects. If you are using Tab for a Cause and earning and donating hearts, the money you raise in Search will go to the causes that receive your hearts.
In the future, we hope to add the ability to distribute your Search for a Cause impact independently of your Tabbing, but for now, you can think of it as supercharging your Tab impact. In fact, on average, when you use Search you will raise about 4 times more than you would just using Tab for a Cause!
Search for a Cause allows you to raise money for charity each time you search because our search partner Yahoo has agreed to share the revenue earned from each search. That revenue from Yahoo is what we use to support our non-profit partners.
Unfortunately, Google is unwilling to share its search revenue, so it is impossible to raise money for charity by searching through Google.
There are a couple of advertisements included in the search results. We get paid for these advertisements and use the revenue to support charities that partner with us. Search for a Cause is free to use and always will be.
No matter what our costs are, we give at least 30% of our revenue to charity. Historically we’ve given upwards of 90%. We use the rest of the revenue for two purposes: (1) to cover costs, which include hosting/server costs and food for our team; and (2) to reinvest in growth so that we can give more to charity in the long term. To learn more about how we are investing our revenue check out this article and our quarterly financials.
Yes! In fact, we encourage everyone to try both, and you'll be raising more money for causes that way!
Search for a Cause lets you change the world as you go about your day: every time you search the web, you raise money for charity!
It doesn't cost you a thing, because the money raised comes from ads in the search results. Rather than take all the money as profit like some other search engines, we give a portion to our non-profit partners.
On average, internet users make over 10 searches every single day, which adds up quickly! Right now, the money you raise through Search for a Cause will support the same non-profit(s) you support on Tab for a Cause.
